I like the fantasy and I wish that’s where we were at, but please just give me a boring middle aged white guy. The people who love AOC the most apparently just aren’t going to show up at the polls in numbers. It’s a problem we’ve been talking about since I was the one not voting and we were blaming it on the way they treated green party candidates (I know, probably even longer). There’s a new excuse every few years, but there always is one and it doesn’t look like it’s changing any time soon.

Please, let’s throw the old people a bone and give them an easy choice so we all don’t have to suffer again. I hate having to think about ‘electable’ too, but let’s just do that astronaut guy they were pushing for Harris’ running mate, they’d love that guy.

I like Trakt as a concept, I’ve used it sporadically, but their pricing was always optimistic, even at $30 a year. It has worked for them overall so far because it’s a well made project and people like them, but the value proposition of paying $5 a month now for something like Trakt feels crazy. It’s hard to look at different types of services at that price point and come to the conclusion that Trakt is comparable. There are actual streaming services creating some of the shows that show up on Trakt that are very similar in price (Dropout as a good example).

Only rational thing I can think of with this recent decision is that they’re tired of running Trakt and hoping to sell it off or close it up.

I could keep talking about this for awhile, you keep touching on good points. One thing that is kinda interesting is that there seems to maybe be a correlation between countries with the lowest birth rates and having a restrictive stance on immigration. Not sure we have actual causation, but we might be relying exclusively on technological improvements and I’m not sure we’re close enough yet for that to work out in time. You’re right and that’s exactly where the problem arises. We’re seeing projections in some places where the need for care workers of various types looks like it will be larger than that countries workforce can bear. I.e., at current levels, there wouldn’t be anyone to work at McDonald’s but then also not enough to work in more necessary roles, basic government, infrastructure, etc.

I hope so too. One of the key problems you have is taking care of the elderly and infirm with less and less of the younger generation around. It’s a hard one to solve economically without being like “I guess just let them die”.

This was mostly pre internet and he’s just never addressed it making it a non story. He claimed he had amnesia and couldn’t remember the accident which definitely at least feels like it adds evidence to the drunk driving claims… But, nothing ever came of it.

Barely maybe, the fan would still be right up against a solid wall. There are projects out there to add cooling fans to network cards that would fit in that area. It’s just rough, airflow wise.

It is, the main fan for the whole machine is the one on the right and these machines rely on very little clearance for the fan to work. The slot the GPU is using would usually be expected to be used for a network card. The case itself has no holes/etc for airflow by default there for most models. There’s a lot of interesting mods for these cases, usually a bit fancier, but this works.

Temps on these change drastically with the case off.

You are right that they are effectively limited use GPUs, but that doesn’t make them useless. That’s really the point, I’d agree it is a weird fit for laptops though.

My personal interest is object detection / facial recognition which is a function a lot of AIs have, but you may or may not classify it as ‘Generative AI’ on it’s own.

It depends on how broad you are with the definition. There are a lot of uses for an NPU that aren’t hosting your own chatgpt analog.

Worst part is, those are usually the best ones.

It sounds like they’re trying to do whatever they can to replicate the previous functionality, but without the company who made it getting in the way, the hardware itself is kind of interesting. I hear the battery life sucks and nothing on it is exactly novel, but I’d be interested to see what people could do with it’s fancy display options combined with everything else.
