I genuinely hope that’s the case. I have some misgivings about another government coming in and stating otherwise, whilst giving some token concessions to the tenants who currently live there to clear out.

the downside I see is that after 35 years, the value of the area will go up incredibly (building stable communities has the tendency of raising property prices), and the actual tenants who want to buy the homes they’ve raised kids in will simply not be able to afford the homes. If the wait was maybe 15 years, then they might have a chance.
At the same time I can understand that making the waiting time period short could be potentially gamed
2 steps forward and 1 step back. I’ll take it at this point, even if it’s imperfect
Oh I still have this, I’m just better at powering through now. My siblings had no issues. Shout to be heard type of household, and I cant shout very well.
Didnt help that my mother has a meandering way of talking and thinking:
e.g. “tetris, I want you to do something for me, remember that curtain rail that I got from Argos before it closed down, we went there with Henry’s mum, the one who hurt her shoulder playing tennis, and now Henry’s going to join the army, hopefully not helping the IDF, which by the way did you see the news…”
I now stop her at the first tangent, and kindly state to her “mum, finish your sentence” where she then realises that she’s holding me hostage and then gets to the point
you guys don’t get mosquitos up north?
a nice pond at the back of the garden is the dream
Meanwhile:
sips herbal tea, and sings along to “let me sail, let me sail, let the Orinoco flow…”

I know what you’re getting at but I also feel like you know what I was getting at, and if we’re going to get into a deep entrenched discussion, it might be best for both us to simply acknowledge each other’s existence but ultimately walk away

A space ship descends and lands outside my door, and and a benevolent Alien pops out and hands me a 512 MB USB stick.
“I crafted this for your species, and made sure it’s compatible with your hardware standards. It contains the sum total knowledge of all life in the universe and can be used to accelerate your species to the next plane of existence.”
I thank him tearfully and he departs with a warm smile, ascending back up into the soon-to-be-knowable cosmos from when he came.
I plug the stick into my machine, and check out the directory. Inside are two files:
105 MB knowledge.tar.piidx 328 KB README.txt
I open up the readme file to learn more about the PIIDX file format so that I can uncompress the sum total knowledge of all existence. General gist:
- Uses a compression algorithm with an infinite dictionary based on prime numbers
- Uses a storage/retrieval algorithm based on the digits of Pi
Realise quickly that the file will never be opened in my lifetime

Goddamn this case is messy. There is a few pieces of damning evidence and clues against her (her not intervening when a baby was struggling to breathe, deaths on the ward only when she was around), but I can definitely understand the nurses who are already pushed to the extremes of their working lives feeling terrified that all deaths can be pinned on them, and not the higher ups who should be ultimately taking the responsibility
I feel like we are in agreement
Think about how much empathy your parents generation has for yours. They kind of sympathize, wish things were easier, but ultimately do not understand the wealth gap or your day-to-day.
Think about how much empathy you have for a 3rd world exploited labourer. You kind of sympathize, definitely wish things were easier, but ultimately do not understand on how they live on less than a dollar a day.
Billionaires aren’t just one or two levels removed from understanding your situation. They are whole planets apart. They cannot comprehend our daily struggles. They do not see it except through summarized news reports that pander and reframe it to their lifestyle.
Billionaires are the most removed species on this planet
